Would the Tea Party be better respected if Michael Steele would make a statement something like the following?
Michael Steele is Chairman of the GOP, not the Tea Party. We Republicans are not the same organization as the Tea Party. I am not a member of the Tea Party, nor is Steele. Why would my party Chairman involve himself with an unrelated organization?
